Your Engagement Session Emergency Kit: Wedding Planning

During this quieter, winter season… I’ve been blog prepping and dreaming big and considering helpful ways to improve my client’s experience! It has been AMAZING, but I’m also really looking forward to what is right around the corner… engagement session season and then wedding season!!!

I always emphasize to my couples that wedding planning? It takes a lot of work. In the end, I promise you that doing the work ahead of time WILL pay off on your wedding day! BUT, did you know that there is also some prep that you should be doing for your engagement session too? In addition to selecting outfits and locations, I also think that you should pack a little emergency kit of items that you may need during your session! (PS click HERE or HERE for more engagement session style tips!)

What has come to be known as the “Oh Sh!t Kit” (I have to give Savannah the credit for the name!) comes with me to every single wedding that I photograph. Inside are bobby pins, sewing kits, hair spray, deodorant, snacks, chalk, meds… literally anything you could think of! The bag is SO large though that it isn’t able to come with me to engagement sessions. It would take FOREVER for us to move from spot to spot!

I let couples know that they can and SHOULD bring along their own mini versions of an “Oh Sh!t Kit” to their engagement session…and today, we’re breaking down what exactly you should bring along with you to your engagement session! Shall we begin?

Colder Engagement Session:

Warm slippers or shoes for walking in between photo locations

Sweat pants, a coat, and a blanket for in between locations

Outfit number two (including shoes and accessories)

NOTE: Your outfit should be on a hanger, and not stuffed in a bag! You will be able to see the wrinkles in your photos!

Touch-up makeup (Including a lip kit and face makeup!)

Hair spray and a small comb

Bobbypins

Tissues

Water bottle

Breath mints or gum

BE SURE TO BRING ALL OF THE HAND AND TOE WARMERS!!

Warmer Engagement Session:

Flip flops or flats for walking in between photo spots

Outfit number two (including shoes and accessories)

NOTE: Your outfit should be on a hanger, and not stuffed in a bag! You will be able to see the wrinkles in your photos!

Touch-up makeup (Including a lip kit and face makeup!)

Hair spray and a small comb

Bobbypins

Water bottle

Hand towel

Yes, this is kind of gross… yes, it is for sweat. I promise you will be SO thrilled when you have it if you need it though!

Breath mints or gum

For my friends bringing along their fur family to their session, add these items to your list of what to bring:

A human friend to keep your pup safe

A leash and collar set that you don’t mind having photographed

(Bonus points if it coordinates with your attire AND keeps your pup safe! If they are heavy pullers and are not used to wearing a collar around their neck, I recommend sticking to what they usually wear on their regular walks. Sometimes, it is not as pretty, but we definitely want to keep your pup safe.)

More treats/food than you think you may need (and then a little extra!)

A ball/toy with a squeaker

Water bottle and water bowl

There you have it! If there is something that you think you may NEED during your engagement session, don’t hesitate to pop it in your bag. Feel free screen shot or jot down these lists to keep on hand as you prepare for your engagement session!
