I’m still not over Emma’s style and ability to create such sophisticated yet FUN outfits for her American University grad session at the Lincoln! I met up with Emma months ago to celebrate her December graduation, but I’ve been holding her photos close, excited to share just a little closer to spring graduation season! (Which… believe it or not… is almost here! But more on that in a second.)
Emma’s American University grad session at the Lincoln was such a treat to photograph!
We met near the Reflecting Pool on one chilly December morning… though it could have been FREEZING, so we were both grateful that it was *just* chilly. There had been some weather in the forecast, but we were keeping our fingers crossed that Mother Nature would play in our favor. The week leading up to her session, we saw rain in the forecast, but based on when the rain would begin, we decided to risk it… and I’m so glad that we did! We nearly had the place to ourselves thanks to the early wakeup and chance for rain, and the rain held off until the very minute we were done working together— a miracle!
It was absolutely beautiful, and we got to hit SO many of the iconic spots! As a photographer, I’m personally partial to cloudy mornings at Lincoln because it makes the views of Washington pop a little extra on camera. These views paired SO well with her adorable white slip dress and absolutely EPIC white leather jumpsuit. Toss in a few cap and gown photos, and you have THE perfect DC graduation photo session!
I love working with grads, especially college grads and beyond, because I get to work with SO many talented, smart, and driven people. It is fascinating to me to learn more about my clients, their interests, and how they will be putting what they’ve been studying into practice. This absolutely rings true for Emma! Throughout her time at American University, she was involved in sexual violence prevention on campus and the club equestrian team all while earning her degree in psychology and justice/law/criminology.
Emma has recently relocated to NYC where she’s putting her degree to good use working in mental health and youth engagement. With her ability to make anyone feel at ease and bubbly yet grounded personality, I know she is sure to do incredible things in her field! Working with Emma was an absolute joy, and I cannot WAIT for you to see just how much of a rockstar this girl is in front of the camera! Ready to get to the good stuff?! Keep on scrolling!
I’m currently booking grad sessions for this spring and have just a few more spots available on my calendar. If you are hoping to work with me in DC or Baltimore, click here to learn more about the CKP grad experience and scroll to the bottom of the page to inquire!
PS Future grads dreaming of a session at the Lincoln Memorial should note that it’s currently under construction until 2026. Don’t worry, though! There are plenty of alternative locations in DC that offer equally stunning backdrops. This session features one of my recommended itineraries for grads to use throughout construction. You can check out the project details and explore other options here.
