Welcome back to the second part of our recap of the pretty maternity sessions that I got to work with my sister to create! (For those who missed it, check out part one here!).
While Part One focused on Meg’s individual portraits, the journey of pregnancy is really about the whole family! Sean was soon to become a dad, and Luna a big sister, so it was only right that they also be included in the portraits!
For this session, we’re taking a quick trip up the East Coast to the sunny, summer shores of Stone Harbor, and y’all… I can’t WAIT for you to see how sweet these photos turned out.
But first… a little context!
If you know me and my family, you may know that Stone Harbor means the world to us! We have been visiting for years and years, and for so many people in our family, it is our favorite place! We have made so many memories on the sandy shores throughout the years, from pirate treasure hunts as kids to proposals as adults!
Knowing how much Meg loves Stone Harbor, Sean decided that he would propose to her while our family was visiting in the summer of 2020, further making an already magical place that much more special in all of our eyes. As the place of their proposal and a place that they both love so much it was only fitting that it be the canvas for some of their maternity portraits as well… and let’s be honest, it is also absolutely gorgeous!
We spent the day hanging out at the beach before heading home to prep Meg and Sean for their session!
We took these photos a little later in Meg’s pregnancy that I usually recommend (mostly just because expecting people will get pretty uncomfortable at a certain point!), but she was an absolute CHAMP! She somehow navigated the soft sand at just about 9-months pregnant and smiled the entire time. It helped that we had mild temps and the most gorgeous golden hour, but I can’t help but be so grateful that she was able to get through this session safely!
Knowing my sister, you know she always has a plan and had been looking forward to these photos for months. Meg had meticulously chosen the perfect outfits for the session. Her selection included a bump-fitted, sand-colored dress and a flow-y gown with more of a goddess feel. Both these pieces complemented the beach setting flawlessly, keeping their session feeling light, bright, and focused on the love and excitement of the season that her family was in! (and you may or may not be able to borrow the gorgeous white gown she finished the session wearing from the CKP Client Closet!)
We walked down to the beach during golden hour for their Stone Harbor maternity portraits!
With the sun just starting to set over the dunes, we timed things perfectly! We started with some gorgeous, backlit photos on the dunes before heading down to the water’s edge for photos with the waves as our backdrop. Of course, Luna joined us and was absolutely adorable on the beach. Somehow, she knew about my sister’s pregnancy before Meg even did, so it was so sweet to feature her in these photos too!
Luckily, we had the beach, mostly, to ourselves and had a blast creating a few final maternity maternity photos. As we wrapped up the session, my sister breathed a sigh of relief… first because she would get to rest her feet soon, and second because we got her session in before baby girl made her appearance! (We had the date of our session scheduled in tandem with my wedding season and my parents’ travel plans which is why we pushed it so close to her due date!)
We walked home as the sun continued to set, and all of a sudden, we realized: the next time they were in front of my camera, there would be an additional member in their family— baby L! Insert our panic and excitement here.
Those sweet newborn photos are coming to the blog in the near future, but before they do, you’ll definitely want to scroll through this beautiful maternity session on the shores of Stone Harbor!
