If there’s one thing I love about photographing couples, it’s hearing the stories that make them them. Kourtney and Sean’s story is one of my favorites, and their engagement session at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, was every bit as sweet as you might imagine.
Let me take you back to a freezing winter evening in 2023 when these two braved the chill to document their love story!
From the first moments of their session, I could tell how deeply Kourtney and Sean care for each other. They’re the kind of couple that share an easy kind of love— they are as much best friends as they are partners. You can tell their love is deep and rich in understanding, allowing them both to relax and simply be themselves. They are such a joy to be around and have a love that so many should look up to.
Kourtney shared that she loves Sean’s boundless, golden-retriever energy—he’s always full of life and keeps her laughing. Sean, on the other hand, says he loves when Kourtney tries not to laugh but can’t help herself. That moment when she cracks a smile? It’s his favorite.
Kourtney and Sean’s story began where so many great ones do—at the gym.
Their first official date, though, is where things get really good. Kourtney’s German Shepherd, a dog with a big personality and a lot of energy, played a starring role. When Sean asked Kourtney out, she mentioned she had to walk her dog. Instead of rescheduling, Sean came to the park prepared—with sushi. They walked the dog and ate sushi at the park, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Fast forward to a magical moment in Oregon.
Sean had never been out West, but Kourtney asked him to visit her home state with her. During their trip, they visited Crater Lake— one of Kourtney’s favorite spots—where Sean proposed. While the moment was so incredibly sweet, the location is so much deeper and representative of their story! Their love for adventure doesn’t stop there—they’re actually working on visiting all the US National Parks as a couple. (Something that they beautifully tied into their wedding design!)

Even though the temperatures were frigid, their energy and laughter made it feel like one of the warmest days of the year. From the stunning yet simple architecture of the Kennedy Center to the dreamy winter light, every moment felt like magic. While these photos have been sitting on my hard drive for well over a YEAR, these two officially said I Do back in September! It’s never too late to recap a session as sweet as this one!
In a glorious day at the Maryland Zoo, Kourtney and Sean became husband and wife surrounded by their nearest and dearest… and some penguins! (YES, real live penguins!)
