Home is where the heart is…as cheesy as it sounds…is the realest phrase this season!
Tonight, I’m headed home to Houston for a week! I’m so looking forward to puppy snuggles, Hallmark Channel movie marathons, and spending a full week with my family! Home, however, looks a little different this year. It looks little bit like a house that is 5 minutes down the road from the one where I grew up. It looks a little like construction & blue prints & thanking God that we all get to be together! We lost most of our first floor in Hurricane Harvey a few months ago, and it has been pretty tough to be in DC as my family works through all of the challenges it has thrown our way. I am feeling so fortunate to have a home and a family to go home to this year because I know that there are many that cannot say the same. My mom was joking and asked ‘Why on earth are you so excited to come home?! We’re all going to be squeezed into the rental for a week!’ But guys…I cannot wait to hop on the plane & get my booty to Texas! I’m anxious (and a little bit nervous, if I’m being honest) to finally having a chance to be in my hometown, post hurricane. I’m so excited to see my family, to celebrate all that we’re thankful for & to have a little bit of downtime! (I’m looking at my calendar, and I don’t think I have had a true day off of work since the end of September!)
This holiday season is going to look a little different for our family this year, but I have a feeling that it isn’t going to FEEL much different at all. Home is all about the people your with, the puppy snuggles that wait for you, the traditions & laughs & celebrating the fact that, despite the fact that we’ve lost a bit of our physical house for a season, we still get to be together, under one roof, as a family. Guys…I’m finally going home, and I cannot wait!
Now…the part of this post that is 110% calling ME out. I know that I am going to be SO tempted to work the entire time I’m home (exciting things in the works, friends!), but I also know that I really need to turn things off to treasure this season with my family and to reset my overworked brain. So, to keep me accountable, I wanted to share my holiday hours with you! I’ll be hopping off email and closing my laptop at NOON this coming Wednesday. I’ll be spending time with my family, away from work for the first time in a while! You can expect to find me back in my inbox Sunday evening, so if you send me an email and don’t hear back right away, know this is why! I have a few fun posts scheduled for the week ahead while I am planning to be out of the office, so make sure you’re tuning in!
Happy (almost) Thanksgiving, friends!
Cheers to a sweet season spent with family & friends!
