Ashley and Karthik are just THE coolest couple— there’s really no other way to say it! They surround themselves with people who hype them up, deeply love their families, and most importantly, they are each other’s soulmates. When they’re together, they have this incredible way of making everything around them brighter, and their Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel wedding was the perfect celebration of their love.
When I arrived at Ashley’s getting-ready suite at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel , with Samantha , my second photographer, I was immediately tackled into a hug by my friend Lauren—one of Ashley’s bridesmaids and a childhood friend from my Penn State fitness days!
Ashley was in the middle of hair and makeup, while her bridesmaids were either getting glammed up or helping to keep everything organized as I photographed Ashley’s gorgeous details.
Ashley and Karthik planned a day that beautifully combined their cultures and family traditions. Their Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel wedding was infused with elements that reflected both of their backgrounds, starting with their attire! They wore traditional Indian outfits for their ceremony and then switched to American wedding attire for the reception. (THE most stunning surprise for their guests!) I had so much fun photographing their details—think lots of gold, rich reds, and sparkling jewelry. Many of the pieces were gifts from family and friends, making them even more special.
Once it was time to get dressed, some of Karthik’s aunts arrived to help the bridesmaids wrap their sarees perfectly.
As Ashley stepped into her stunning emerald and gold lehenga, her bridal look truly started to take shape, and let me tell you—she made the most breathtaking bride! As the aunts finished getting the bridesmaids ready, Ashley put on her finishing touches and then headed across the street to the Inner Harbor to meet Karthik for their first look.
Even though it’s pretty much fall here in Baltimore, we were blessed with a warm day. These two didn’t let the heat bother them one bit! The harbor was quieter than usual for a Saturday afternoon, which gave Ashley and Karthik a private moment to see each other for the first time on their wedding day. Their smiles said it all, but the moment that still sticks with me is when, just after they saw each other for the first time, they wrapped their arms around each other and gazed out at the harbor. You could feel them both exhale, as if to say, “We’re finally here. Let’s go get married!”
After taking some bride and groom portraits in their Indian attire, their wedding party joined us in the harbor!
This group was so much fun—such an energetic and supportive crew! Everyone was organized and ready to help make sure the day ran smoothly, which made it all the more enjoyable to capture.
Their ceremony was an amazing blend of traditions, combining Hindu rituals with American vows— after outdoor portraits, it was time to head inside to get these cuties hitched!
Walking into the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel to see their Mandap for the first time took everyone’s breath away—bright florals, golden tones, and candles scattered among petals created such a dreamy scene. Ashley and Karthik were married in a traditional Indian ceremony, and watching Ashley and her parents embrace Karthik and his parents’ culture with so much joy was truly beautiful. The look on their faces throughout the ceremony said everything—Ashley and Karthik were so excited to be married, and their families were so proud of them!
Near the end of the ceremony, Ashley’s brother-in-law, Ish, joined the bride and groom on the Mandap for their exchange of personal vows and rings. After completing a few more wedding traditions, they were officially husband and wife!
While guests headed to cocktail hour, Ashley and Karthik made their way back to their suites to change into their American wedding attire.
They shared another sweet first look in the hotel courtyard, this time in their new outfits, before we headed into the reception. Ashley’s dress was absolutely stunning, and Karthik’s custom tux, with its ornate wine-toned details, tied in perfectly with the reds and burgundies used in their reception décor.
Their wedding reception at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel began with an unforgettable entrance from the newlyweds!
They surprised their guests with their second looks as they entered on a literal cloud with the hype-up music from Karthik’s favorite soccer team as their soundtrack. Everyone’s excitement in that moment was absolutely epic! They headed right to the dance floor to share their first dance as spouses.
Their first dance was made even more special by the fact that it was sung by Ashley’s sister—such a meaningful and personal touch. After their first dance, the energy picked up with a few more lively songs, and the couple was able to hug and greet so many of their guests before it was time for toasts, parent dances, and dinner.
I had a feeling the dance floor was going to be a blast, and this crew did not disappoint! The party was nonstop all night long, and it was such a blast to photograph everyone letting loose and having the time of their lives. As Ashley and Karthik head off to Montreal for their minimoon, I’m left reminiscing on their EPIC wedding day at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel!
